Week 2: History and Evolution

●HASS: Researching the history of animal domestication, focusing on specific species (dogs, cats, horses). Creating a timeline of domestication.

Dogs were domesticated more than 30,000 years ago. Dogs are believed to be the first domesticated animals, They were domesticated from wolves in various parts of the world, Including Europe and Asia. Early humans likely use dogs for hunting and protection.

Cats - 7500 BCE, cats were domesticated in Western Asia. They were attracted to humans settlements because of the large amount of rats and other rodents and gradually became comfortable with humans

Horses - 4000-3000 BCE, horses were domesticated in Central Asia in areas like Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

●Science: Investigating the evolutionary history of domesticated animals and the process of domestication.

Animal domestication is the process of a prompt, artificial, and intensive selection of wild animals that, over the last 11,500 years, has altered the Earth's biosphere, shaped human evolution, and influenced the size of the human population.

●English: Analyzing texts that explore the historical relationship between humans and animals.

The human-animal bond has evolved for more than 15,000 years and it began as a working relationship. Animals provided protection and service to people; this could have been while hunting, farming, or performing other tasks necessary for day-to-day life.

●French: Learning how to describe physical characteristics (color, size, breed) and personality traits of domestic animals in French.

french: les chiens sont des animaux bruyants et ludiques. Les couleurs qu'ils ont tendance à être sont le noir, le blanc, l'or, la crème et bien d'autres. Il existe des centaines de races de chiens, comme les rottweilers, les Golden Retreivers, les pitbulls et bien d'autres encore.

english translation: dogs are playful loud animals. The colours they tend to be are black, white, gold, cream and many other. There are hundreds of dog breeds that exist like Rottweilers, Golden retrievers, pitbulls and more.

●Art: Experimenting with different art materials and techniques to find the best way to express historical human-animal connections.

About 40,000 years ago humans started cave painting animals. The humans would paint the animals in herds or paintings of them killing the animals. To paint the picture they would use coloured rocks typically red, black or yellow such as charcoal, red ochre, manganese oxide.

●PE: Fitness activities that mimic the movements of historically significant animals (e.g., galloping like a horse).
