WEEK 1

Week 1: Introduction - What are Domestic Animals?

● English: Brainstorming, discussions, and sharing personal experiences with pets or other animals. Reading texts that present diverse viewpoints on human-animal relationships.

My family found a stray cat under our house years ago. He was very nice and not your normal stray. We took him in and he lives with us now. He is very lazy and very nice. He makes me happy because sometimes he does funny dumb things. His fur is soft, i like patting him. I read about animals regularly online, in particular about rabbits. I read on a website that rabbits start chattering there teeth like purring when they are happy and calm. I have a pet rabbit that i got about 4 years ago. She was paired with another rabbit but he sadly died.

● Science: Classifying animals based on their characteristics (mammals, birds, reptiles). Discussing the definition of "domestic" and its implications.

Ive got 3 pets:

  1. Max - Felis catus of the family felidae
  2. Maggie -  Canis lupus familiaris
  3. Furn - Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus

● Art: Sketching and drawing exercises focusing on animal anatomy, movement, and expressions.

● French: Introducing basic French vocabulary for domestic animals (chien, chat, cheval).

chat- cat: my cat is very fat

chein- dog: my dog is loud

cheval- horse: my horse is fast

● HASS: Brainstorming different ways humans interact with animals. Discussing the ethical considerations of animal use.

Humans interact with animals in the following ways:

  1. horse riding/horse races
  2. dog racing
  3. patting them
  4. feeding them
  5. eating them
  6. bird watching
  7. training them

● PE: Exploring different animal movements through creative movement activities.

movements i did like different animals:

  1. jumping like a frog
  2. hopping like a rabbit
  3. galloping like a horse
  4. duck walk
  5. slithering like a snake

● Design & Tech: Brainstorming recycled materials and their potential uses in creating models.

Ive seen videos on different apps where people can make sea life creatures using cardboard. And using other materials like toilet paper rolls, paper, paper plates and lots more recycled and reusable objects.

● Cooking: Brainstorming foods we get from domestic animals and discussing their role in our relationship with them.

food we get from animals

  1. eggs
  2. meat
  3. meat products
  4. fish
  5. milk/cheese
  6. shellfish

We take animals to farms so we can feed them to make them bigger and healthy until they are fully grown. Then the farmers export the live stock to butchers for them to kill and sell the animals. Many people don’t agree with doing this as farmers can be cruel to the animals like leaving them in small containers and keeping them in the sun. Some people such as myself consider this as torturing them in different ways.
